Women Leading the Way at Globe Locums: Celebrating Leadership and Progress

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the inspiring women who contribute to the success of Globe Locums in a variety of roles. As part of our #AccelerateAction campaign, we’re sharing their career journeys, insights, and advice. Through their experiences, we aim to empower and encourage more women to thrive in recruitment and healthcare.
We asked women across Globe Locums a series of questions about their journeys, mentors, resilience strategies, and career advice. Here’s what they had to say.
How did you get into recruitment?
For many of the women at Globe Locums, the path into recruitment wasn’t necessarily planned, but it became a natural fit for their skills and passions.
Olivia Burr, Recruitment Consultant, found her way into recruitment after university because of her passion for working with people. “I really enjoyed people-focused activities, so it felt like a good match,” she says.
Similarly, Ellie Sharp, Team Manager in Biomedical Science, saw recruitment as an opportunity to combine people skills with business strategy: “I wanted a role where I could engage with people daily, build relationships, and create opportunities.”
For Reem Altamore, Senior Recruitment Consultant, recruitment offered an exciting and fast-paced career where she could make a difference: “It’s a job where no two days are the same. I love the challenge and the reward of matching candidates with roles that change their careers.”
What women mentors or role models have influenced your journey and why?
Isabel, Head of Insourcing and Contracts, finds inspiration in sports. “Kelly Holmes won two gold medals in one Olympic Games at the age of 34, which was incredible. Age is no barrier!”
For Olivia Burr, mentorship came from within Globe Locums. “My mentor, Reem, stays calm in challenging situations, knows her own mind, and stands by her principles.”
Ellie Sharp looks up to her mum, whom she describes as “a strong, independent woman who always works hard.”
Amanda-Jayne Forward is inspired by a close friend who built a women’s home cervical cancer screening service. “She showed me that if you have an idea, passion, and the drive to follow through, you can be successful.”
Reem Altamore credits her former recruitment manager, Lucy, as a key influence. “She had confidence, business acumen, and exceptional client relationship skills. I admired the way she led with both strength and empathy.”
Lana Davies, Business Development Manager, emphasises persistence and creativity as key lessons she’s learned from women role models. “Persistence is key. Think outside of the box because that makes you stand out. Respect the hierarchy but challenge when necessary.”
What strategies do you use to maintain resilience, avoid burnout, and achieve success?
Balancing professional ambition with personal well-being is crucial for long-term success. Our team shared their strategies for resilience.
For Olivia Burr, self-care plays a big role. “Making time for myself is essential. It helps me reset and stay focused.” She enjoys running, playing netball, and spending time with friends to maintain balance.
Reem Altamore believes that strong professional relationships are key to avoiding burnout. “When you foster trust with clients and candidates, it makes work more fulfilling and manageable.”
Ellie Sharp sees resilience as a mindset, explaining that “You need to be adaptable, embrace change, and see challenges as opportunities rather than setbacks.”
How Do You See the Role of Women in Business Evolving Over the Next Decade?
The future of women in business is one of progress, but there is still work to be done.
Olivia Burr is optimistic about increasing representation. “I hope to see more women in senior roles and on boards of directors.”
Isabel believes the landscape is shifting, but consistency is key. “Women’s presence in leadership will continue to grow, but we need to ensure support structures are in place.”
Reem Altamore highlights the need for equity, not just equality. “It’s not just about having more women in leadership; it’s about creating environments where they can thrive.”
What One Piece of Career Advice Would You Give to Your Younger Self?
Reflecting on their journeys, our team shared the advice they wish they had known earlier.
Olivia Burr encourages young professionals to stay open-minded about career choices. “I was adamant I wanted to be a lawyer from the age of 13, but I realised law firms weren’t for me. Value the people you work with over the perceived status of a job title.”
Isabel reminds women that success isn’t about having everything figured out from the start. “You don’t always have to have everything planned. Trust the process.”
Lana Davies highlights the importance of resilience and adaptability. “Every challenge is a lesson. Stay persistent and creative.”
What Advice Would You Give to Any Young Woman Aspiring to Build a Career in Recruitment and Become a Business Leader?
For those looking to follow in their footsteps, our team offer empowering words of wisdom.
Olivia Burr encourages women to speak up. “Make yourself heard. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and views.”
Reem Altamore stresses the importance of confidence and self-belief. “Step forward and take opportunities. No one will hand them to you—you have to take them.”
Ellie Sharp advises women to build strong networks and seek mentorship. “Find a mentor, build a network, and don’t be afraid to ask for advice.”
