Working in the UK during Covid: An insight from an Aussie Speech Pathologist
In this week’s blog, we catch up with Georgia, a speech pathologist from Australia who came to the UK to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Georgia shares her experiences of what it’s been like to come to the UK and what her work has been like. Please read Georgia’s insights below.
Why did you decide to travel and work in the UK last year?
I was tired of putting off something I had always wanted to do! The timing wasn’t ideal with covid, but I was ready for a change and the UK had so much for me to explore, even in lockdown.
How have you found the application process?
Pretty easy! It has definitely been tedious at times with a lot of paperwork, but it’s all self-explanatory and worth doing!
How easy has it been to secure work?
No issues at all. I landed in London on Tuesday and had an interview Thursday with the job locked in Friday. Working in health has definitely helped, there is no shortage of positions available.
What are you most looking forward to now you’ve started your UK adventure?
Travel! It has been amazing to travel around England but I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of the UK and Europe. There’s always something to look forward to over here!
What advice would you give for budding Aussie’s looking to come here but still too nervous to make the leap due to Covid etc?
Stop thinking and just do it. There is something here for everyone. It’s not always easy, but it’s a great opportunity to learn more about yourself, and have experiences you couldn’t get at home.
